Our Shepherds Creek El Zorro is the beautiful son of StudMasterTM El Toro (deceased). He has grown to closely resemble his sire in stature, and sports a dense, crimpy, bright fleece that still feels like butter. He has lingering fineness, and is still producing VERY nice offspring, as evidenced by his latest daughter, Victoria Rose. Zorro's cria come in all colors, probably due to the genetics from his dam…. a very fine fleeced daughter of true black Chinchero.
In the show ring, Zorro was proclaimed by Mike Safley, Wade Gease and Amanda Vandenbosch to have both the finest fiber and the longest staple length in a number of large classes at Level 4 and 5 shows. He was placed 1st as a Juvenile in a class of 12 at the North American Alpaca Show, and was a close contender for Reserve Champion. As a yearling, Zorro placed second at the Empire Alpaca Extravaganza behind a full accoyo Championship winner. There were 14 alpacas in the class.
Zorro's fineness, combined with his density and brightness is what we are striving for in our breeding programs. He has numerous beautiful colored offspring, including black, dark and light rose grays. His ability to improve on the quality of the dams he is bred to is excellent overall.
Zorro has produced two daughters of particular distinction, both from very fine black dams. First, in 2008 he sired a black female, Precious Shepherd's Melaina who had a stunning super-soft dense fleece. She placed 2nd at the 2009 Nationals in a large Juvi composite class, 2nd at the Empire Alpaca Extravaganza, and first at the 2009 SEPA show. Between 2009 and 2011 Zorro’s breeding slowed, but then we decided to use him on an older girl who had miscarried and not been re-bred in a while. This bay black girl also has a very fine fleece. In 2012 they produced an excellent brown female, Victoria Rose. She has taken two first place ribbons for her spot-on conformation and extremely uniform, fine, dense fleece. We bred that dam right back to Zorro after seeing what they produced!
